Woodrow "Woody" Crane, 89, of Rosedale, died at 11:55 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, in Union Hospital, Terre Haute.
He was born July 14, 1914, in Clinton, Ind., to the late Cecil Robin Crane and Dora Jordan Crane.
He graduated from St. Bernice High School in 1930 at the age of 16. He also graduated from Indiana State University.
He was a retired coach, educator and farmer. He taught school at St. Bernice, Dana, Bridgeton and Rosedale schools. As a coach, his teams in Bridgeton and Rosedale won many championships in baseball, basketball and track. He won six consecutive championships at Bridgeton.
He was a 35-year member of the Friendly Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Rosina Riso Crane, whom he married on June 28, 1941, in Clinton; one son, Stephen Crane and wife Donella Crane of Rosedale; one daughter, Diane Williams and husband Ronn Williams of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, John Williams, Michael Williams and wife Melissa, Tony Williams, Todd Crane and wife Amy, and Gina Crane Kuhn and husband David; and five great-grandchildren, Alex Williams, Amanda Williams, Trevor Crane, Kaitlyn Crane and Mahali Williams.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Daniels, and one brother, Kenneth Crane.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Friendly Grove Baptist Church, 2 1/2 miles northeast of Rosedale with Pastor Perry Mager and Pastor Jack E. Hopkins officiating. Burial is in the Crane-Brunot Cemetery in rural Rosedale. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Friendly Grove Baptist Church.
