He was a retired district manager for the Prudential Insurance Company and former owner of Jim's Used Furniture at Farmersburg. He was a member of the Hickory United Methodist Church, a life member of the Sullivan Masonic Lodge No. 263, and a member of Scottish Rite, the Zorah Shrine Temple and the Sullvan County Shrine Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Montogomery Halberstadt; one son, James I. Halberstadt; his parents; one brother, Harold Halberstadt; and one grandson, Christopher Harold Young.
Survivors include one daughter, Chloe Nell "Connie" Guy of Vincennes; one granddaughter, Jamie Jackson and her husband Mark of Paxton; one nephew, Jack Keegan of Evansville; two great-grandchildren and one great-great- granddaughter.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Holmes Memorial Chapel with Rev. Thomas Stapp officiating. Private burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Westlawn Cemetery at Farmersburg. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of services Sunday.
