Mary Gerber Jones Elmore, 78, of Brazil, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004 at 8:40 a.m. at the Clay Health Center.
She was born on April 21, 1925, in Clay County, the daughter of Roy and Ruth Lucas Gerber.
She attended many small school in Clay and Putnam Counties before graduating from Brazil High School in 1943. Upon graduation, she moved to Indianapolis and made her home there. She retired from Western Electric in 1975 after 27 years of service. She was then employed by Tony Rays Dry Cleaners from 1979-1987.
In 1950, she married Robert Jones, who preceded her in death on June 8, 1987. On May 12, 1990, she married Thomas H. Elmore, who preceded her in death on August 23, 2003.
She was a member of the Harmony United Methodist Church, the Clay County Christian Quilters, and the Pioneers Club of Western Electric.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John Gerber, Harold Gerber, and Ted Gerber; and one stepson, Phillip Jones.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jim Gerber and wife Mabel, of Harmony; two sisters, Virginia Church and Mayme Johnson and husband Don, of Brazil; four step-children, David Jones and wife Aileen, Barbara Nixon and husband Jerry, Jane Bertocchi and husband Dick, and inda Maresca and husband Bob; 21 step-grandchildren, many step-great-grandchildren; stepdaughter-in-law Sandy Jones; 19 nieces and nephews; brother and sister-in-law John and Linda Elmore; and four aunts, Pauline Johnson, Lena Biggerstaff, Eva Beadling, and Betty Green.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lawson-Slack Funeral Home, with Rev. Bob Kumpf officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4-8 p.m. and again Sunday one hour prior to services.
