¬?.Butler, 58, of Columbus, Ind., died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at 6:12 a.m. at his home.

He was born on April 4, 1945, in Columbus, the son of Everett "Jack" Butler and Dorothy Brooks Butler, who both preceded him in death.

He married Norma K. Stevenson Butler on June 2, 1990; she survives.

He attended Lincoln Elementary School and Central Junior High and graduated from Columbus High School in 1963. He attended Ball State University, graduated from University of Evansville and taught at English High School in Indiana, where he was the assistant basketball coach.

He taught at St. Bartholomew Catholic Elementary School and coached both the boys' and girls' basketball teams from 1971 to 1977. He was employed by the City of Columbus Engineering Department on June 11, 1979, before transferring to the Planning Department.

He played Santa Claus for over 30 years and was an avid collector of many things, including Santa memorabilia, Mickey Mouse memorabilia, old movies and trains. He enjoyed horses, dogs and music. He was an authority on B western movies. He was an avid listener and reader and a friend to many.

He was a member of the Elks Club and a former member of the Jaycees.

Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Amy Stevenson of Brazil; brother-in-law, Earl Stevenson of Brazil; sister-in-law, Wilma Jenkins of Brazil; five nephews; one niece; and a few cousins.

Memorial services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Vernon Jewell-Nick Rittman Funeral Home. Calling hours will be today from 3 to 8 p.m. and also Friday from noon until time of service.
