Born Jan. 27, 1925, in Clay County, she was the daughter of Earl Haviland and Esther Croft Waggoner.
She was a housewife and a member of Rebecca Lodge of Hymera and the Women's Auxiliary of VFW Post 717 in Worthington. She loved her family, sewing, and doing crafts and was a great eucherer, winning several tournaments.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Carpenter Sr.; four brothers, Loraine "Bud" Haviland, Theodore "Ted" Haviland, Otho Waggoner Jr., and Renos Waggoner; and a son, Paul Earl Carpenter.
She is survived by two sons, Ralph Carpenter Jr and wife Deloris, and Randall Carpenter; two daughters, Shirley Carpenter and Edwina Vaughn and husband Mark; a sister, Hazil Wilson; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mattox-McHugh Funeral Home in Hymera, with the Rev. Timothy Fleace officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. Burial will be at Knights of Pithias.
