Ray Wilbur Neese, 78, of Lebanon, Ind., died at 3:50 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2004, at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital in Carmel, Ind.

Born in Poland on April 22, 1925, he was the son of the late Dennis Clifford and Lola Anna Nees Neese.

He was raised in the Poland community and graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1943. In the spring of 1944 he began his career farming. He moved from Clay County in 1968 to Boone County where he continued to farm, raised popcorn, and developed the Morningside Phase II residential area in Lebanon .

He was married on Feb. 17, 1946, to Vera Lenora (Cline) Neese. She died on Sept. 25, 1984.

He was married in Lebanon on July 14, 1985, to Doris M. (Sandvig) "Sandy" Knapp Neese, who survives.

Memberships included Trinity Lutheran Church in Lebanon and the Boone County R.E.M.C.

Survivors include his wife; three children,Mrs. Conrad (Kathlene) Scheich of Littleton, Colo., Mrs. David (Kanene) Summers of Lebanon and Michael R. Neese and wife, Susan, of Thorntown, Ind.; three stepchildren, Alan Knapp and wife, Kristi, of Muncie , Ind., Mrs. Mike (Susan) Bertsch of Indianapolis and Mrs. Keith (Judy) Wilson of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Russell (Evelyn Jane) Cline of Mesa , Ariz.; two brothers, Donald Neese of Brazil, William "Bill" Neese of Poland; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Scheich and wife, Stephanie, Ryan Scheich and wife, Jenette, Mrs. Geoff (Kara) Donner, Kyle Summers, Justin Summers, Mrs. Tyler (Amanda) Trent, Mrs. Travis (Casey) Sutphin; two great-grandchildren, Kyla and Melia Donner; seven stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Herschel Neese, is deceased.

Funeral services with Pastor Martin Bornhoeft officiating, will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Elm Swamp Road, in Lebanon on Monday, at 10 a.m. where the body will lie in state one hour prior to the services.

Visitation is planned for Sunday, 2-6 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon .

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon .
