Kelly Joe Hughes, 48, of Brazil, died 7:40 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2004, at his residence.
Born July 1, 1955, in Brazil, he was the son of Guy A. Hughes and Marian E. Buchholz Hughes. He earned both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from ISU and was an elementary school teacher for 25 years, teaching for South Putnam.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Brazil, where he had served as pianist for 21 years. His hobbies included music and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Sherri DeFronzo Hughes, whom he married June 18, 1983; his daughter, Kelsie Elizabeth Hughes; his son, Kyle Joseph Hughes; his father, Guy A. Hughes, of Brazil; his brother, Howard R. Hughes and wife Katrina, of Brazil; two sisters, Charlotte A. Hayes and husband Willard and Leah L. Schuch and husband Martin, all of Brazil; and a large extended family, including several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marian E. Hughes, on Oct. 15, 1987; and two grandmothers, Rachael E. Hughes and Lola J. Buchholz.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church of Brazil, with Rev. Greg Comp officiating. Interment will follow in Clearview Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the ALS Association of Indiana. Envelopes will be available during visitation and services. Arrangements are under the direction of French Funeral Home, Brazil.
