James William "Jim" Bayer, 85, of Saltillo, Miss., died Saturday, March 6, 2004, at his residence after a lengthy illness.
A native of Harmony, Ind., he lived in Brazil prior to his military service. He was an Army veteran and had served in the European Theatre during World War II. He lived in Indianapolis for 28 years before moving to the Saltillo area in 1974.
He retired with FMC in October of 1983. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves baseball.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Cora Elnora Bayer of Saltillo; one son, Stewart S. Bayer and wife Pamela of Valparaiso, Ind.; one sister, Grace Bayer of Brazil; and one brother, Thomas Bayer of Brazil.
Six brothers, Henry, Frank, John, Marvin, Joseph and Gilbert Bayer; and three sisters, Anna Strain, Carolyn Wright and June Cooksey, preceded him in death.
A stateroom prayer service will be held today at W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors in Tupelo, Miss. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Entombment services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Floral Park Mausoleum in Indianapolis.
