Martha Mae Klass, 83, of Coal City, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at midnight in the Good Samaritan Healthcare Facility in Jasonville. She had been a resident there for three years.
Born Oct. 4, 1920, in Rockport, Ind., she was the daughter of Perry F. Fouts and Goldie Dayhuff Fouts. They moved to the Coal City area when she was a young girl.
On June 8, 1940, she married Cleotis Klass; he survives.
She was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking and received the Jane Award from the Owen County Homemakers.
Memberships included the Jefferson Baptist Church in Coal City and the Coal City Fire Department Auxillary.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Ronnie Harris of Terre Haute; a son and daughter-in-law, Max and Mary Klass of Coal City; four grandchildren, Kelly Starkey, Becky Harris, Megan Klass and Derek Mitchell; two great-grandchildren, Kyle Starkey and Cody Starkey; a brother, Herman Fouts of Corydon, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Florence Huey; several nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Charles, Lloyd, Harry, Earl and Raymond Fouts; and her twin sister, Mary Francis Johnson.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Bush officiating. Burial will be in Beech Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, 5-7 p.m. and Friday prior to services.
