He was born Oct. 18, 1913, in Perry Township in Clay County, the son of Lewis and Hattie Hofmann Jeffers. He graduated from Cory High School.
He was a member of the Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church. He was the district director for 39 years of the UDWI, the rural electric co-operative. He was a farmer in the Cory area.
He married Erma McCullough Jeffers; she preceded him in death on March 3, 2002.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Phil Spriestersbach of Terre Haute; one grandson, Doug Spriestersbach and wife Jill of Terre Haute; one granddaughter, Lynn Smith and husband Doug of Decatur, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Reba Spriestersbach and Jodie Smith; and nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with the Rev. Max Brunton officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service.
