Letha Claire Hurst, 95, of Greencastle, died Sunday morning, March 14, 2004, at the Putnam County Hospital.
She was born May 9, 1908, in Putnam County, the daughter of Robert and Addie Thomas Irwin. In April of 1951, she married Carl Hurst and he preceded her in death in March of 1979.
She was a graduate of the Greencastle High School and of the Indiana State Teachers College. She taught at the No. 2 School, Madison Township School and many other Putnam County Schools retiring from the Reelsville Schools.
She had also worked at the Selective Service Office during World War II and at the Putnam County Welfare Office.
She was a member of the Long Branch Church of Christ and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include five nephews, Irwin Evens, Norman Evens, Donald Irwin, Robert E. Irwin and Robert P. Irwin; seven nieces, Letha Cofer, Elinor Buis, Marjorie Wallace, Dona Pierce, Carolyn Flint, Marlene Maston and Eugenia Shinn; and several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Her parents; four brothers, Elbert, Herndon, Glendyn and Evan Irwin; a sister, Wilma Evens; a niece, Loretta Stansberry; and a nephew, Marvin Evens also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
