Virginia M. Freeman, 76, of Clay City, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at 4:35 p.m. at Southwood Healthcare Facility.

She was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Brazil, the daughter of Theodore Mark Bass Sr. and Laura Mae Bryant Bass. She married Robert Freeman Jr. on Dec. 20, 1952. He passed away Nov. 22, 1974.

She worked as a hostess and waitress at the LK Restaurant several years ago. She most recently helped her son and daughter-in-law at their restaurant in Clay City.

She was a member of the Coalmont Church of God. She enjoyed being a resident at Southwood and participated in many activities.

She is survived by her two sons, John Russell Freeman of Plainfield and Bob and Angie Freeman of Clay City; three grandchildren, Vicky Freeman, Laura Freeman and Erin Freeman; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Bass Sr. and Theodore Bass; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, William Wayne Freeman; one son and daughter in infancy; one daughter-in-law, Clairsee "Jo" Freeman; one sister, Mary Jane Weaver; and one brother, Robert Bass.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with the Rev. Rehmel officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again Friday prior to services.
