Rebecca "Becky" Hunteman Grimes, 32, of Brazil, formerly of Fillmore, Ind., died Sunday, March 21, 2004, at her home. She had been fighting cancer for four years. She was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was pregnant with her second child.

She was born Feb. 2, 1972, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Gary and Shari Stuart Hunteman. She was a 1990 graduate of South Putnam High School, where she was an active student.

She was a drum major, played five different instruments, ran track and cross-country and still holds the 2-mile record. She earned a blanket for her sports award.

On May 18, 1991, she married Sean Grimes; he survives.

She furthered her education at Indiana State University, with a bachelor's degree in 1993 in graphic design. She taught for two years at Ivy Tech in Terre Haute. She worked at Bemis Company in Terre Haute until her medical treatment became too difficult.

She became active in the Young Survivors Coalition in Indiana. She inspired many survivors across the nation. She was an active member of the Christ Community Church and produced the newsletter for the church. She and her husband have both been very active in the El Shaddai Emmaus Community.

She was a devoted Christian wife and mother. Her love for the Lord was her priority, as well as her family.

Survivors also include her children, Samuel Patrick Grimes, age six, and Erika Michelle Grimes, age three; her parents of Fillmore; her sister, Emily Hunteman of Lafayette and fiancee Ninad Shinde; her brother, John Hunteman; her father-in-law and his wife, Steve and Donnie Grimes; her mother-in-law and her husband, Linda and Mike Mallory; and a large circle of friends.

The celebration of her life will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 10942 N. S.R. 59, Brazil, with Pastor Tim Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery in Putnam County. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. and again Saturday one hour prior to services. French Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
