Irene Spurlock, 83, of Owensboro, Ky., and formerly of Brazil, died Thursday evening, March 4, 2004, following an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 30, 1919, in Manilla, Ark., to John and Mary Moyer. She married John Spurlock in 1941. After moving around with the Air Force for many years, they made their home in Brazil in 1954.

She loved being around her many grandchildren and working in her flower and vegetable gardens.

She was preceded in death by her parents in 1957; her husband in 1973; her son, John Spurlock in 1995; eight of her siblings; and three great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Lynda Girton and husband Don of Brazil, Bill Spurlock of Huntingburg, Ind., Brenda Kennedy and husband Harlan of Calhoun, Ky., and Steven Spurlock of Ridge Farm, Ill.; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Monteen Moyer of Manilla, Ark.; nine grandchildren, John Robbins, Pat Robbins of Brazil, Joe Robbins of Indianapolis, Amy Revlett and Jessica Slack of Calhoun, Leslie Willis of Columbus, Ga., Jana Spurlock of Huntingburg, Chelsea Spurlock and Taylor Spurlock of Ridge Farm, Ill.; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

At her request, cremation was performed at the Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. French Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements in Brazil.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Clearview Cemetery with Bro. Doug Parkey officiating. Friends may gather one-half hour prior to services at the cemetery.
