Myrtle Ellen Logan Boyd, 98, of Brazil died Sunday, April 4, 2004, in St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
Born Dec. 31, 1905, in Putnam County, she was the daughter of John H. and M. Alice Girton Landes.
She attended grade school through the 8th grade at the former west Union School in Putnam County, two years at the Reelsville High School and graduated from Van Buren High School in 1924. She received her B.S. Degree from Indiana State University in 1942 and her Masters Degree from DePauw in 1967. She taught seven weeks in Parke County and the next 4 years in Putnam County. She taught in the Reelsville Elementary School, retiring in 1973.
She was married to Everett Logan on April 25, 1943; he passed away Oct. 23, 1964. She later married Joseph E. Boyd, who passed away April 15, 1988.
She attended church regularly at Northside Church of Christ in Terre Haute and was a past member of Order of Eastern Star 238.
On May 6, 1971, the library at Reelsville Elementary School was dedicated and named in her honor. She was a devoted teacher.
She enjoyed cooking and feeding friends and family. She was well-known for making noodles, peanut butter fudge and candy.
Survivors include a stepson, Joe E. Boyd of Florida; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emma Skomp of Indianapolis and Nellie Murray of Terre Haute; two brothers, Albert Landes of Brazil and Virgil Landes of Reelsville; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Her parents, two husbands, two sisters, Rachhel Duzenberry and Iva Miller, and two brothers, Lester Landes and Irvin Landes, preceded her in death.
Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Lawson-Slack Funeral Home with Mitch Davis Officiating. Burial will follow in Croys Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday prior to services.
