Lawrence Young, Jr., 78 of Brazil, died at 5:55 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2004 at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
He was born Jan. 6, 1926 in Clay County, Ind. He was the son of Lawrence and Emma Young who have both preceded him in death.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre where he saw front line action. Following the war he worked in the steel industry with Ball Corporation until his retirement. Upon retirement in 1979 he moved to Brazil.
He loved gospel music, singing and playing his harmonica. He also enjoyed the outdoors and fishing.
His parents; three brothers, Stanley, Leon and Johnny Young; and his wife, Mildred Crabb Young, preceded him in death.
He is survived by one daughter, Donna Meir of Florida, one granddaughter, Julie; two stepsons, Al McGinty and wife Carolyn of Terre Haute and Daniel McGinty and wife, Dixie, of Brazil; one stepdaugther, Donna Sanford, of Greencastle and several stepgrandchildren.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday with burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parke County.
