Josephine "Jo" L. Morris, 96, of Brazil, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at 9:55 p.m. at Holly Hill Healthcare Facility.
She was born Nov. 29, 1907, in Owen County, the daughter of George L. Morris and Lydia Grace Sommers Morris. She graduated from Clay City High School and from Indiana State University.
She taught at Patricksburg for seven years and then moved to Anderson, Ind. She taught elementary grades at the Anderson City School for 33 years. She moved back to Clay County in 1980 to be near her family.
She was a member of the First Brethren Church in Clay City. She enjoyed church missionary work, writing poetry and the study of birds. She had several poetry pieces published and was an accomplished musician, playing the piano and organ.
She is survived by her brothers, Roscoe Morris of Brazil and Ray Morris of Vincennes; one brother-in-law, Marvin Spear of Clay City; seven nieces, Frances Hoskins, Judy Payne, Janice Persinger, Carolyn Sue Sievers, Joyce Seabury, Rebecca Lock and Randa Trammell; two nephews, Steve Morris and Brian Morris; and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Juanita Ezra, Geneva McClure and Mary Spear; two brothers, Virgil Morris and one brother in infancy; one niece, Betty Knox; and her good friend Donna Lewis.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Beech Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of services.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the charity of their choice.
