Charles W. "Bill" Jeffries, 81, Carbon, Ind., passed away May 2, 2004, in the St. Vincent Clay Hospital in Brazil. Born July 21, 1922, in Carbon, he was the son of Frank and Pearl Brooks Jeffries.
He worked for Glen Gery Brick for 21 years retiring as a foreman in 1977. He was a WW II veteran of the United States Army Air Force, a member of the VFW Post 1127, Carbon Methodist Church and the Hod Carriers Union. He attended Van Buren High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eona Poor Jeffries and a brother, James Brooks.
Survivors include a son, Chuck Jeffries, and his wife, Earline, of Anderson; a daughter, Linda K. Underwood, and her husband, Jack, of Rockville; two brothers, Grady Jeffries, of Gilbertsville, Ky., and Raymond Jeffries of Brazil; four grandchildren, Bill Jeffries, Craig Underwood, Lora Richardson and Julie Kendal; seven great-grandchildren, Klayton and Victoria Jeffries, Jason and Justin Underwood, Jeremiah Herider and Michael and Brandon Kendall and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Miller Memorial Chapel with visitation from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Calcutta Cemetery.
