Following high school, he entered the Army.
On Feb. 18, 1958, he married Dorothy Clegg. She survives.
He worked as a butcher, first at Home Packing in Terre Haute; later he retired from Spendal Meats in Clinton.
He was a member of American Legion Post 48 in Rockville.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Herschel and Tina Godsey and Allen and Cindy Godsey, all of Brazil; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Jim Brickey of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Lisa and David Crafton of Center Point; seven grandchildren, Annie Brickey, Amanda Gouckenour and husband, Steve, Candace and David Godsey, Jessica Crafton and fiance Josh Hann, Zachery and Chad Godsey; six great-grandchildren, Maklia Whitten, Taylor Cooksey, Jayden Godsey, Jesse Gouckenour, Nicky Gouckenour and Braden Godsey; a sister, Dorothy Nevins of Brazil; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Howard, Nelson, James and Gene Godsey; and a sister, Loretta Brown.
At his request, cremation will take place and there will be no services.
