Gilbert N. Ellis, 72, of Brazil, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at 3:55 a.m. at the Clay Health Center.

He was born April 3, 1932, in Brazil, the son of Herschel and Dolly Orman Ellis. He was a lifelong farmer in Clay County.

He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and singing gospel music. He attended Deliverance Temple Church in Brazil.

He is survived by his sons, Willard Ellis, Robert Ellis and wife Viola and Tony Ellis and wife Dirinda, all of Brazil; a daughter and son-in-law, Edna and Randy Meeks of Savannah, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Deanna Draper, Michelle Eaglin, Phillip Ellis, Nicholas Ellis, Sherri Kruzan, Melissa Green, Randy Meeks, Darin Bell and Jay Ellis; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herschel Ellis and wife Shirley of Jasonville and Paul Ellis and wife Doris of California; four sisters, Hazel Swan and husband Forrest of Brazil, Naomi Salyers and husband Raymond of Clay City, Eva Lou P'Poole and husband Frank of Xenia, Ill., and Sue Wiram and husband Dave of Pimento, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Phyllis Dierdorf Ellis.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at French Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Roeschlein officiating. Burial will follow at Harmony Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of service.
