ROBERT B. SCHROCK
Robert B. Schrock, 73, of Lebanon, Ind., died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at 9:56 a.m. in his home of natural causes, following an extended illness.
He was born in Wolcottville, Ind., on March 27, 1931, the son of the late Ruben and Susan Yoder Schrock.
He spent his early years in Wolcottville and then served during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. He returned to reside in Ft. Wayne, Ind., where he started his 42-year career with the Kroger Company. In addition he served as a volunteer firefighter in Ft. Wayne.
He was formerly married to Barbara Bowes. He was married in Whitestown, Ind., on March 27, 1982, to Patricia A. White Hine Schrock, who survives.
He loved his family and friends. He enjoyed playing cards, sports and sporting event, and auto racing.
In Ft. Wayne he served as a volunteer fireman April 1964 thru September 1995. He worked as a truck driver for Kroger in Ft. Wayne until he retired in 1995. He drove a school bus for the Lebanon Consolidated School System November 1997 through November 2003 and was known by the students on route eight as "Bob the Bus Driver."
He was a member of Whitestown United Methodist Church and Sons of the American Legion Post No. 410 in Whitestown, and a life member of the V.F.W. in Lebanon Post No. 910 and the V.F.W. Post No 1421 in Ft. Wayne. He was a member and Past Commander (1999-2000) of American Legion Post No. 410 in Whitestown and a member and former Junior Vice Commander (2003-2004) of V.F.W. Post No. 910 in Lebanon.
He was awarded "Fireman of the Year" twice in Ft. Wayne, the Barney Kroger Award for Outstanding Community Service and Kroger Safe Driver Awards for 25 consecutive years.
Other survivors include three daughters, Dawn and husband Charlie Overman of Kansas City, Mo., Denise and husband Michael Hinson of Thorntown, Ind., and Diana and husband Mark Graham of Clay City; one stepson, Ed Hine and wife Terri of Zionsville, Ind.; two stepdaughters Cheryil and husband Mark McAtee of Lebanon and Lori and husband Mike Bear of Brazil; four brothers, Elmer Schrock and wife Virginia of Fort Wayne, Bill Schrock and wife Joan of Kendallville, Ind., Paul Schrock and wife Ruth of Fort Wayne and Clayton Schrock and wife Marge of Leo, Ind.; one sister, Ruth Gappinger of LaGrange, Ind.; one brother-in-law, Wayne Miller and wife Judy of LaGrange; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kelly McAtee; four brothers, David Schrock, Levi Schrock, Don Schrock and Albert Schrock; and two sisters, Betty Miller and Frances Beck.
Funeral Services will be Saturday at Myers Chapel of Memories, Lebanon, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Tamyra Seaver officiating. Visitation is planned for Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Lebanon. Burial will follow military rites at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
