Born May 21, 1954, in Greencastle, he was the son of Wayne E. and Roberta J. Newgent Hopkins. He was a graduate of Greencastle High School Class of 1972 and attended Vincennes and DePauw universities. He married Lisette Hopkins on March 29, 2003, and she survives.
He owned and was a pyrotechnician with Pyrotechnic Productions for 28 years. He attended the Carbon Baptist Church in Carbon.
Other survivors include a son, Robert Hopkins of Brazil; a daughter, Kay Hopkins of Brazil; two brothers, Don Hopkins and wife Darla of Greenfield and Robin Hopkins and wife Susan of Westfield; a sister, Rebecca Schneider of Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday.
