Elizabeth "Betty" Smith, 71, of Brazil, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at 6:50 a.m. in the Clay County Health Center. She had been a resident there for one week.
Born Feb. 27, 1933, in Patricksburg, Ind., the daughter of Theodore and Mildred Allen Simmons, she attended school in Patricksburg. She was a member of the Good Tidings Tabernacle in Brazil. She was married to Leslie Ward Harrington; he passed away Aug. 26, 1993.
In the past she had been a cook and supervisor at L.K. Restaurant, and a housekeeper.
She enjoyed being in church, singing and sending cards to friends and family, and nursing home ministry, which she did until she was no longer able. She always had a smile on her face for everyone.
Her husband, Arthur Smith, whom she married on April 29, 2000, survives. Also surviving are 12 children; Lester Harrington and wife Wilma, of Jacksonville, Paul Harrington, of Portland, Ind., Ted Harrington, of Brazil, Robert Harrington, of Terre Haute, Ken Harrington and wife Lisa, of Nappanee, Ind., Mack Harrington and wife Cathy of Brazil, Dan Harrington of Terre Haute, Keth Harrington of Brazil, Sharon Summers and husband Hubert, Gail Blackburn, and Judy Evans, all of Brazil, and Kathy Landers, of Terre Haute; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers and five sisters, Wayne Simmons, Don Simmons, Paul Simmons, Rosemary Prouse, Susan Dummit, Helen Martin, and Carol Willman; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Her parents; one brother, Ted Junior Simmons; one sister, Martha Beard; and one son, Michael Harrington preceded her in death.
Services will be Tuesday at French Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with Brother Buddy Cline officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 4-8 p.m. and again Tuesday prior to services.
