He was born in Harmony on May 10, 1933. His parents were Charles Whitmarsh and Irene Shaffer Whitmarsh. He was a graduate of Van Buren High School.
At age 18 he began working as a machine operator at Allison's in Indianapolis, and retired after 30 years of employment. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and finishing.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had served overseas in Germany.
Surviving are his wife, Caroyln Moser Whitmarsh, whom he married on Dec. 1, 1955; one son and his wife, Thomas J. and Connie Whitmarsh, of Harmony; one daughter and her husband, Linda Lea and Michael Nicosin, Brazil; one brother and his wife, Bob and Wanda Whitmarsh, of Harmony; six grandsons, Shawn, Travis, Austin, and Caleb Nicosin, Joshua Thomas Whitmarsh and Rick Haughee, all of the Brazil area; three granddaughters, Amy Nicole Whitmarsh and Michelle Broten, both of this area, and Francie Duke, of Indianapolis; two great-grandaughters, Grace Nicosin and Savannah Archer, of this area; one great-grandson, Zebediah Duke, of Indianapolis; his mother-in-law, Irene Trench, of West Terre Haute; and a niece, Mickey Woodrow, of California.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Miller Memorial Chapel. Pastor Tom Roeschlein, assisted by Mr. Whitmarsh's son and son-in-law, will officiate, and internment will be in clearview cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.
