Chester "Chet" Burnette, 70, of Reelsville, died Friday, June 25, 2004, at 8:55 p.m. at his residence. Born in London, Ky., on Feb. 28, 1934, he was the son of Balton and Laura Jones Burnette.
Chet resided in Reelsville, Ind., with his wife, Dorothy B. "Dottie" (Melton) Burnette. They were married Sept. 8, 1978, in London, Ky.
He retired Sept. 16, 1997, from Sharp Ford, Indianapolis, as a mechanic. He loved watching sports and being on his CB radio. He had coached and raced cars. He loved to fish, hunt, bowl and play euchre. He also enjoyed his garden and mowing his lawn.
Chet was saved by his preacher, Steven Blaydes, of the Putnamville Baptist Church, Putnamville, Ind.
His parents preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Shirley Burgess, Sharon Burnette and Lori Dodge; two sons, Kevin and Martin Burnette; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Massey; two stepsons, Charles and William Smith; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Norma Johnson and Cathy King of Indianapolis; and three brothers, Virgil and James Burnette of Indianapolis and Doug Burnette of Manchester, Ky.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at House-Rawlings Funeral Home, 510 E. 4th St., London, Ky., with Pastor Steven Blaydes officiating. Burial will follow in Gilbert Cemetery, Sasser, Laurel County, Ky. Visitation will be today at the funeral home, 6-9 p.m.
