He was the son of Ross and Emma James of Knightsville and graduated from Van Buren High School in 1948. He retired from Allison's and drove a school bus for Avon.
He was an avid fan of NASCAR and Purdue.
He is survived by his wife, Leona Vudis James; two daughters and a son, Dixie McGinty and Dan, Becky Pleske and Walt and R.C. James and Stephanie; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four brothers and five sisters, John, Web, Tub and Tom James and Doris Johnson, Emma Jean Endsley, Janet Bledsoe, Latricia Antison and Sandy Ames; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Octavia James; and two sisters, Mary Frances Rutherford and Patricia James.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Conkle Funeral Home, Hendricks County Chapel, Avon. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a memorial service at 7 p.m. Entombment will be in Westridge Park.
