Helen James, 76, died Sunday, July 11, 2004 in Jacksonville, Fla.
She was born Aug. 14, 1927, the daughter of Carl A. and Georgia Watler. She moved to Brazil when she was three and grew up here.
She married William C. James, who preceded her in death, in 1946. She was active in the Eastern Star, and was past worthy matron of OES 80 in Brazil. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brazil. She moved to Florida in 1991, where she became special friends with Mac McCollister and served as the secretary of the Good Sam's Club Chapter 122.
She enjoyed camping, crocheting, and other crafting, and her dogs.
Survivors include Wilbur "Mac" McCollister; three children, Richard L. James and wife Emily, Phyllis Coombs and husband Alan, and Rod James and wife Darlene; nine grandchildren, Ed Katz-James and wife Gail, Jim and Heather James, Laura and Eric Coombs, Janna, Bill and Mallory James; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Rebecca Coombs.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date in Brazil.
