Robert Lee "Bob" Lear, 73, of Rockville, died at 1:25 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004, in Hickory Creek at Sunset in Greencastle.
A self-employed farmer and truck driver, he retired from IBM in Greencastle with 32 years of service.
Born April 18, 1931, in the Bethel neighborhood of Parke County, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Lena F. Day Lear.
He was a 1950 graduate of Bridgeton High School and served four years in the United States Air Force.
He was a member of Rockville Christian Church and a former member of Lena United Methodist Church.
A former Past Master of the former Catlin Masonic Lodge, he was a member of the Montezuma Lodge 89 at the time of his death.
He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing and he was a beekeeper.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Vera Thompson Lear, whom he married on March 2, 1953, in Brazil; four sons, Robert L. Lear II and his wife, Brenda, of Avon, Ind., Jeffrey A. Lear and his wife, Chris, of Rockville, Brian D. Lear and his wife, Lana, of Rockville, Mikel J. Lear and his wife, Karen, of Rockville; a sister, Mary Jo Mace, of Rockville; and six grandchildren, Brooks Lear, Stacey Lear, Rachel Lear Allison and her husband, Brent, Jason Lear, Justin Lear and Eric Lear.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Gooch Funeral Home, Rockville, with the Rev. Brad C. Bumgardner officiating. Burial will follow in Clearview Cemetery, Brazil, with military graveside honors.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and before services on Monday.
A Masonic service will be conducted by the Montezuma Masonic Lodge 89 at 8 p.m. Sunday.
