Ruth Fern Gooch, 95, of Wooster, Ohio, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at the Westview Manor Nursing Home in Wooster.

She was born May 24, 1909, in Poland, Ind., the daughter of Ross Carl and Bessie McCann Kattman. She married Darrell H. Gooch in 1930 and he preceded her in death in January 1987.

She was a graduate of Brazil High School and DePauw University. She had been a teacher at both Ben Davis High School and Greencastle High School prior to relocating to Wooster. She was an elder of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a member and former president of Putnam County Hospital Guild and a member of Greencastle Women's Club and Monday Book Club.

Survivors include her son, Ross H. Gooch and wife Cinny of Wooster; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son, John D. Gooch.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Greencastle Presbyterian Church with the Rev. V.R. Sonny Griffith and the Rev. Doctor Keith Geckeler officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home.
