Julia Werneke Deem, 91, of Greencastle, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Asbury Towers Healthcare in Greencastle.
Born Sept. 20, 1912, she was the daughter of Henry "C.B." and Essie Sharp Werneke. She was a graduate of Greencastle High School Class of 1930 and Indianapolis Business School.
She was a secretary at DePauw University Health Services Department. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, having served as a greeter and an Eucharistic Minister; the St. Paul's Ladies Guild; and the Putnam County Hospital Guild. She was also a volunteer at the Putnam County Senior Center.
She had several hobbies, including reading, gardening, music, needlepoint, cooking and traveling. She was a Delta Theta Tau Alumnae.
Survivors include her cousins, Judy Johnson of Greencastle and Herbert E. "Bud" Werneke of Terre Haute; and friends, John and Mary Margaret Rightsell Rissler of Brazil, John T. and Andrea Rissler of Reelsville, Tim Rissler of Reelsville and Sarah Rissler of Brownsburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles Werneke; and a sister, Helen Werneke.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Greencastle, with the Rev. Stephen Jarrell officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10:30 a.m. on Friday until time of service.
