Born Oct. 1, 1933, in Brazil, he was the son of the late Leo and Della Nussel Duregger.
He was a Clay County farmer and a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways, retiring in 1998.
Memberships included St. Susanna Catholic Church and Plainfield Elks Club.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Barther Duregger; five children, Cheryl Wilson, Amy Mayrose, Walter Duregger Jr., Christopher and Daniel Ross; a granddaughter; three grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Brazil.
