Darrell R. Bell, 73, of Avon, Ind., died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, in Avon.

He was born Sept. 12, 1930, in Brazil, the son of Anna McCullough and Clem Bell. He married Mary Lou Woods Bell; she survives.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was discharged in 1953.

He was the members service director at Hendricks County R.E.M.C., retiring in 1996. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Plainfield for 46 years.

Survivors also include his daughters, Janice Strawmyer and husband Steve and Pamela Darnell; brother, Clem Bell Jr. and wife Ruby; grandchildren, Kimberly Galloway and husband Chad, Sean Strawmyer, Forrest and Audrey Darnell; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Bell, in 1997.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 1012 Stafford Rd., Plainfield, with the Rev. John Parsley and Dr. Marc Hays officiating. Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Conkle Funeral Home, Hendricks County Chapel, Avon, and one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.
