Mary M. Howard, 88, of Brazil, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.

She was born July 28, 1916, in Parke County, the daughter of Frank Murphy and Olive Lynch Murphy. She attended school in Bridgeton.

In 1932, she married Harold Leo Howard. He preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 1986.

She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Brazil. She lived at Meridian Towers for over 20 years. She was a member of Brazil Eagles Lodge and the Moose Lodge.

She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed being with family.

She is survived by her one son and daughter-in-law, John and Deanna Howard of Brazil; three daughters, Barbara Tolbert and Peggy Wells, both of Brazil, and Carol Biggs of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren, Susan Ferry and husband Mike, Gloria Erb, Alan Stevens, Troy Howard and wife Merrie Lou, Elizabeth Francis, Vickie Bays and husband George and Bobbie Ringo and husband Kevin; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Jean Howard, Betty Howard and Betty Rose, all of Brazil; one brother-in-law, Garland Williams of Carbon; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Pauline Summers Brown, Clara Williams and Ruth Pittman; two grandchildre, Peggy Stevens and Jeffrey Howard; and two sons-in-law, Everett Biggs and Roy Tolbert.

Services will be Monday 1 p.m. at French Funeral Home with the Rev. Leonard Steeb officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. and again Monday prior to services.
