Margaret (Peggy) Blair, 79, of Brazil, died at 11:56 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
She was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Terre Haute. She was the daughter of George and Louise Eccles Hallock. She graduated from Wiley High School and received her B.A. degree from Indiana State University in 1945 and her master's degree in 1952.
She was a career educator for 42 years. She taught school in Norris City and Belleville, Illinois and Gerstmeyer and Terre Haute North High in Terre Haute. She was the Chairman of the English Department at Gerstmeyer 1961 through 1971 and at Terre Haute North 1971 through 1987. Peggy was active in the community, participating in several organizations including Tri Kappa Sorority, where she served as Council (State) President 1985 through 1987; Brazil Public Library Board of Trustees; Clay Civic Memorial Foundation Board of Directors; Women's Reading Club; Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 6606 in Clay City; Ft. Harrison Chapter of DAR; Vigo County Retired Teachers; Indiana State Retired Teachers; North Ladies; and the Bridge Club. She attended the First Presbyterian Church of Brazil.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Benjamin Paul (Bubbles) Blair in 1998.
She is survived by one stepdaughter, Nanci Blair Closson of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; one stepson, Tad O. Blair of South Bend, Indiana; and four grandsons, Shannon Closson of Tucson, Arizona, Corey Closson of Indianapolis, Benjamin Ray Blair of Troy, Ohio and Jeremy Blair of Kings Bay, Georgia.
Visitation will be 4 -- 8 p.m. Thursday at Moore Funeral Home. A private family graveside funeral service will be Friday afternoon at Summit Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Gary Scroggins officiating.
Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Clay County Community Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
