Joyce C. Karn, 68, of Brazil, died Aug. 17, 2004, at 12:43 a.m. at her residence.
She was born May 23, 1936, in Monticello, Ind., the daughter of Archie Carl Doud and Bessie Elkins Doud. She graduated from Roosevelt High School, Class of 1954, then from St. Elizabeth Hospital Nursing School in 1957.
She worked at the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis, then later at the Clay County Hospital and Clay Health Center. She met Larry Karn while nursing in Indianapolis. They married July 1, 1967, and relocated to the Brazil area in 1970.
She was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans Association. She enjoyed collecting dolls and jewelry. She was above all a devoted caregiver to all her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband; three sons, Greg Karn and wife Janice and Brad Karn and wife Shelley, all of Brazil, and Jeff Karn, of Bloomington; one daughter, Kim Holley and husband Ted, of Brazil; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Karn, Brad Karn II, Benjamin Karn, Jeffrey Karn II, Johnathon Holley, Nicholas Karn, Chelsea Holley, and Kaileb Holley; two sisters, Donna Carney and husband Jack, of Leheigh, Fla. and Patty Horney and husband Mike, of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Francine Doud and Wanda Kessler; and one brother, Basil Doud.
Services wll be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Miller Memorial Chapel with Pastor Steve Brittain officiating. Burial will follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. and again Saturday prior to services. Light a candle in her memory at www.frenchfuneralhome.com.
