Ruth E. Ward, 82, of Brazil, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, in the emergency room of St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
Born Jan. 11, 1922, in Clay County, she was the daughter of John I. and Maude Gooch Girton.
She graduated from Van Buren High School, Class of 1940.
On June 15, 1940, she married Clarence LaVeral Ward, who survives.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was skilled at carpentry and wood crafting. She enjoyed flowers and caring for her home.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Barbara Ward and Max and Jackie Ward, all of Brazil; four grandchildren, Renee McLaury, Lisa Kaelber and husband, Donnie, Jonathan Ward and Bryan Ward; five great-grandchildren, Shaylee Ward, Danica and Megan Neir, Brayton and Landon Kaelber; a sister, Mary French; a brother-in-law, Eldon Ward and wife, Bev, of Florida; many nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers and a sister, Josephine Girton, Ralph Girton, Talbut "Spud" Girton, Harlan "Peanut" Girton, Don Girton, Sammy Girton, Wesley Girton and Owen Girton.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Miller Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tom Roeschlein officiating. Burial will follow in Calcutta Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, 4-8 p.m., at Miller Memorial Chapel and Wednesday prior to services.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Ward, Jonathan Ward, Jim Tabor, Steve French, Larry Girton and Jack Knox.
