Irene Cooper, 85, of Brazil died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at 12:10 p.m. in Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility.
Born Dec. 16, 1917, in Clay County, she was the daughter of John E. Martin and Nellie Pearl Miller Martin. She was married to Frank Russell Cooper, who died in 1956.
She worked in housekeeping at Indiana State University until her retirement in 1987.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Lowell Garrigus, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Phyllis and Thomas James of Brazil; 10 grandchildren, Zona Garrigus, Marla Norris, Felicia Face, Leeann Long, Susan Sutherlin, Larry Cooper Jr., Laura Sneed, Kimberly Montague, Parry James, Jayme James; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Norma "Bonnie" Day of Brazil; a sister-in-law, Betty Martin, of Brazil; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Larry Frank Cooper and Bruce Russell Cooper; two sisters, Opal Brossman and Mildred McCallister; six brothers, Lawrence Martin, Melvin Martin, John R. Martin, Harold Martin, Bob Martin and Fred Martin.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in French Funeral Home with the Rev. Rebecca Zelensky officiating. Pallbearers will be Gary Norris, Ronnie Face, Mike Montague, Vince Long, Carl Sutherlin and Butch Sneed.
Burial will follow in Summit Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from t to 8 p.m. and Wednesday pror to services.
Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Brazil Public Library. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
