Betty Lou Hayes, 73, of Brazil died at 12:29 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital following an extended illness.
Born in Terre Haute on Jan. 1, 1931, she was the daughter of Donald Foltz and Dorothy Laymon Foltz who later moved to Staunton. She attended Staunton High School through the 11th grade and then earned a GED.
While residing in South Carolina, she became a Certified Nurse's Assistant and later became a beautician.
She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1127 Ladies Auxiliary of Brazil.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four infant children and a son, Robert A. Hendricks.
Survivors include her husband, Robert W. Hayes, whom she married Nov. 16, 1992; a daughter and her husband, Lisa and Glen Watler of Brazil; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Sherry and Rick Lewis, Kenna and Tony Hitt, all of Brazil; seven grandchildren, Don Watler, Charla Freeman, Kali Watler, Stephanie McMains, Shyanna Lewis and Alex Hitt, all of Brazil, and Jessica Freeman of Georgetown, Texas; a brother, Donald Foltz, in California; three sisters, Pat Foltz Jacobson, of Florida, Carolyn Tilley McGinty and husband, Al, and Peggy Tilley Hunter, all of Brazil; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Miller Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tony Alstott officiating. Burial will be in Summit Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday with a VFW Auxiliary walk through at 6 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana. Envelopes will be available in the funeral chapel.
