Wilbur Frank Sanders, 77, of South Bend, and formerly of Brazil, died at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, in St. Joseph Care Center West, South Bend, following an illness.
Born Oct. 5, 1926, in Brazil, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Kathryn (Eberle) Sanders and had lived in South Bend since moving from Brazil in 1946.
On June 15, 1947, he married Marie Witkowski in South Bend; she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Jo Ann Chobanian, of Cleveland, Ohio; three sons, Larry and Connie Sanders and David and Karen Sanders, of South Bend, and Ronald and Sancy Sanders of LaPorte, Ind.; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Sanders; two sisters, Pauline Thomas and Kathy Behnke; and a brother, John Sanders.
Mr. Sanders retired as a construction superintendent for Ed Rose and Sons Construction in 1989. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II. He was a long time member of VFW Post 2284 in Niles, Mich., and held memberships in Loyal Order of Moose, Isaak Walton League, Carpenter's Local 413 and attended Abundant Life Fellowship of South Bend.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, with the Rev. Earl Rynearson officiating.
Cremation will take place at Michiana Crematory, South Bend, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Valley memorial Park, Granger, Ind.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, in the funeral home.
