The Rev. Jasper Junior Hammons, 75, of Clay City passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2004, in his home.
Born Oct. 15, 1928, in Smartsburg, Ind., he was the son of Jasper and Nora Alice Baker Hammons.
He retired from ServiceMaster after many years as director of environmental services and was also an ordained Baptist minister. He served the Barnard Baptist Church and the Eminence Baptist Church; he and his wife also served as youth directors with First Baptist Church in Crawfordsville.
The Rev. Hammons was a member of the Winamac Rotary Club.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Clorissa Taylor; two brothers, Charlie and John Hammons; and two sisters, Mary Couts and Helen Rhine.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Stella Deaton Hammons; four daughters, Jacqueline Hammons of Clay City, Peggy Burton and husband, Harold, of Clay City, Judy Childers and husband, Rick, of Shelbyville, and Connie Taylor and husband, Ed, of Cloverdale; two sons, Ronald Hammons and wife, Alice, of South Carolina and Dennis Hammons and wife, Lisa, of Springfield, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-granchildren;
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Clay City, with visitation 4-8 p.m. today. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery, Midland, Ind.
