Born in Hendricks County on Sept. 7, 1913, she was the daughter of Robert and Iva Kemp Barnes.
For 26 years she had been employed in the parts department of General Motors in Indianapolis. She retired Oct. 1, 1978.
Gladys was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Terre Haute and was a former member of Faith Baptist Church in Avon.
Her husband, Ira D. Sutherlin, died in 1952. Also deceased are a son-in-law, Robert Wilson, a grandson, Robert Wilson Jr., and seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Wilson, of Terre Haute; two sisters, Hazel Becktel and Martha Silliman, both of Plainfield; two brothers, John Barnes of Belleville and Kenneth Barnes of Plainfield; five grandchildren, James D. Wilson, Michael Perry, Karla Buis, Starla Wilson and Peter Wilson; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in Miller Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mark Wingler and Pastor Warren Brokering officiating. Visitation will be 4 p.m. Thursday until services. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
