Patty Rae Stangle, 64, of Terre Haute, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at 4:02 a.m. in Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Born July 27, 1940, in Brazil, she was the daughter of Arthur and Evelyn Thomas Johnston.

She graduated from Van Buren High School and went to St. Anthony Hospital nursing school. She later graduated from Ivy Tech with her LPN degree.

She worked at both St. Anthony and at Terre Haute Regional hospitals. She retired from nursing after more than 20 years when her health began to fail.

She enjoyed reading, word search, video games, camping and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Robert Stangle Jr. and wife, Ginger, of Brazil and Raetta Stangle of Terre Haute; three grandsons, David Stangle, Robert McCreery and Scott Stangle; a brother, Edward "Butch" Johnston, and wife, Dawn, of Terre Haute; two sisters, Brenda Raia of Brazil and Cheryl Tarpley of Liberty, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Robert Stangle on May 15, 2000; and a sister, Karen Joan.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in French Funeral Home with the Rev. Dick McShanog officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, 4-8 p.m., and Wednesday prior to the services.
