Ruel Lawrence Schroer, 77, of Clemmons, N.C., died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, N.C. Born Dec. 20, 1926, he was the son of Lawrence Rodell and Ruth Hemphill Schroer in Center Point. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, James August and Robert Keith Schroer.
Mr. Schroer graduated from Bowling Green High School and attended Terre Haute Commercial College. He served in the United States Army. On Oct. 3, 1948, he married Delores Maxine Spangler, daughter of Walter and Dona Spangler of Poland. Mr. Schroer was a devoted husband and loving father. He enjoyed woodworking, participating in craft shows, reading and spending time with his family. He retired from Tell City Chair Company in Tell City, Ind. He was a member of Hebron United Church of Christ in Midway, N.C.
Survivors include his wife, Delores; four children, Myra Kievit, Ruella Davis and her husband Ron, Jim Schroer and his wife Angel, and SFC Stewart Schroer and his wife Joanna; six grandchildren, Michaelene Bouterie and her husband Jim, Andrew Schroer, Cory Schroer, Rani Eve Davis, Johnathon Schroer, and Jessica Schroer; his sister, Jean Malone and her husband, Ray, of Dayton, Ohio; one aunt, Mazo Rollings of Mooresville, Ind., and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at French Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Adin Rodgers officiating. Internment will be at the Poland Chapel Cemetery following the service at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at Hebron United Church of Christ in Midway, N.C. Sunday, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, the American Heart Association, the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home or The Life Center of Davidson County.
