Walter Lee Bender Sr., 79, of Shelbyville, died Oct. 30, 2004, in Heritage House of Shelbyville.
Born Feb. 21, 1925, in Poland, he was the son of John Bender and Effie Nancy Bender.
He attended Brazil High School and served in the Army during World War II.
He worked for Knauf Fiberglass 1970-'87, J. B. Clowe and Sons in Chicago 1966-'70 and NATCO Corp. in Brazil 1947-'66.
He married Doris Lowe on April 22, 1973.
He was a life member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Shelbyville and a member of Fairview Christian Church in Brazil.
Survivors include a son, Walter Lee Bender Jr. of Shelbyville; three daughters, Sharon Lynne Neese and husband, Gary, of Brazil, Molly Wiseman and husband, Franklin, of Indianapolis and Cindy Murphy and husband, Bill, of Shelbyville; seven grandchildren, Brad and Crista Neese, Larry Boyer and Bonnie Boyland, Debra and Walter Krenodle and John Murphy; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Charity Alberta Martin Bender who died Dec. 23, 1972; two sons, Joe Adams and James W. Montgomery; four brothers; and three sisters.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Carmony-Ewing (Broadway) Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Dr. Randall Slavans officiating.
Burial will be in Lewis Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
