Evelyn I. Hyatt Stoops, 89, of Cory died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, in Holly Hill Health Care.

Born June 25, 1915, in Clay County, she was the daughter of Cash and Myrtle Dalton Hyatt.

She had worked in manufacturing at Wadley Poultry and later in the dietary department at Meadows Manor, retiring in 1975.

She was a member of Cory Community Church of the Nazarene for more than 50 years serving the church in many capacities.

Mrs. Stoops was also very active in her neighborhood taking care of family friends and neighbors in a variety of ways. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Stoops, a son, Robert, a great-granddaughter, Amber Darlene Stoops, three brothers, John, Alfred and Forest Hyatt and her parents.

Survivors inlcude a son, Fred W. Stoops, and wife, Darlene, of Cory; two daughters, Lorena Adams and husband, Merle, of Cory and Cheryl Atkinson and husband, Steve, of Knightsville; three sisters, Alta Edwards and husband, John, of Clay City, Mary Kruchi and husband, George, of Clay City and Thelma Stevenson and husband, Harvey, of Plainfield; seven grandchildren, Jessica Sparks and husband, David, Brian Stoops and wife, Angela, Angie Nicoson and husband, Jared, Robin Cotter, Carrie Hurley and husband, Jason, Dee Ann Adams, Paul "Gary" Adams and wife, Deborah; 12 great-grandchildren, Dale Stoops, Samantha Stoops, Summer Sparks, Brandon Sparks, Cole Nicoson, Chance Nicoson, Kody Buss, Kelci Buss, Herrod Adams and wife, Kim, Jason Adams, Justin Adams and Melody Adams; two great-grandchildren, Evelyn Adams and Gabriel Adams; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City with visitation 4-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
