Born Jan. 2, 1930, she was the daughter of Roy and Ora Combs Powell.
She worked at Indiana State University as a housekeeper. During her free time, she enjoyed playing bingo and attending yard sales.
She is survived by her son, Charles Nelson II, of Rockville; three stepdaughters, Sharon Metz, Karen Sutherlin and Lori Ross, all of Brazil; two stepsons, Mark Williams and Terry Williams, both of Brazil; three sisters, Mildred Coleman of Brazil, Loretta Jenkins and husband Lloyd of Seelyville and Vallie Head of Brazil; a brother-in-law, William Head; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Emma Davis, Dorothy Taylor and Lenora Head; a half-sister, Ruth Harvey; and a half-brother, Forrest Lancaster.
Services will be at French Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday with Elder Curtis Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
