Dennis R. Abernathy, 62 of Carrollton, Ga., died 12:50 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
Born Oct. 19, 1942, in Brazil he was the son of Verley and Sarah Walker Abernathy.
He graduated from Van Buren High School. He worked for Columbia Records/Sony Music in Terre Haute, transferring to Carrollton, Ga., in the early '80s. He retired after 38 years with the company. He was a member of BPO Elks. He especially enjoyed I.U. basketball.
He was preceded in death by his father.
In addition to his mother, Sarah Walker Webster, he is survived by his wife Susan Bennett Abernathy; two daughters, Lee Ann Rhine of Carrollton, Ga., and Jana Kennedy of Brazil; one son, Russ Abernathy and his wife Dehabra of Bremen, Ga..; five grandchildren, Joshua Rhine, Sarah Anne Kennedy, Will Kennedy, Dylan Abernathy and Benjamin Abernathy; and one sister and her husband, Rita and Hank Sallady of Hudson, Florida. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Anne Bennett of Brazil; one brother-in-law and his wife, Jeff and Barbara Bennett; and one sister-in-law and her husband Julie and Clark Ahrens.
Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil followed by private family services. At the request of the deceased, his body will be cremated and his ashes buried at Harmony Cemetery at a later date.
