\Robert L. Wise, 88, of Indianapolis and formerly of Terre Haute, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, in Lakeview Manor in Indianapolis.

Born Feb. 5, 1916, in Sullivan County, Ind., he was the son of Flavius and Leona Wise.

He was a member of Terre Haute First Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 86, Zorah Shrine and the Scottish Rite.

He retired from the Western & Southern Life Insurance Co where he was associate sales manager of the Brazil office.

He served as a minister for more than 50 years at several American Baptist Churches in West Central Indiana. He was a volunteer chaplain for the U.S. Penitentiary and Union Hospital in Terre Haute.

Survivors inlcude his wife of 67 years, Ruth Wise; his three sons, Robert and wife, Judy, of South Bend, Ind., David and wife, Pauline, of Brazil and John and wife, Nila, of Granger, Ind.; his daughter, Sally Kempf, and husband, Edward, of Avon, Ind.; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Sarah Webster, Mildred Kuykendall and Ruth Wise; and a brother, Max.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. in Thomas Funeral Home, 2200 N. 13th St., Terre Haute. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Ed Randall officiating. Masonic Lodge No. 86 will conduct Masonic services at 7 p.m. Friday.

Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Terre Haute.
