Bette Jean Spencer, 78 of Brazil, died at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at Royal Oaks Health Care in Terre Haute.
Born March 17, 1926, in Crete, Ill., she was the daughter of Otis and Julia Lybarger Harris.
She attended Brazil High School. Following high school she worked for several years as a nurses aide.
She married Francis Spencer in Spencer, Ind., Oct. 28, 1943. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Brazil and a member of the Best Years Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Loretta Lucille Burk, Catherine Harris, Lillian Marcella Reese, and Waunita Virginia Reynolds and brothers Raymond Harris, Clifford Harris, Clyde C. Harris, and John W. Harris.
She is survived by her husband, Frances "Babe" Spencer; two sons, Rick Spencer and wife Marcia of Valrico, Florida and Randy Spencer and wife Robin of Brazil; one daughter, Joni Brown and husband Steve of Brazil; grandchildren Lindsey and Ryan Brown, Megan and Blake Spencer and Sara, Shauna, Samuel and Sheila Spencer. She is also survived by one brother, Wayne Harris and his wife Imogene of Brazil; sisters-in-law Lula Mae Harris of Brazil and Martha Spencer of Athens, Ga.; and one brother-in-law, John Reese of Brazil.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Lyle Monnett officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
