Harley R. Ireland III, 93, of Brazil, died at 3:11 p.m. Thursday at Westminster Village in Terre Haute.

Born Jan. 20, 1912, in Brazil, he was the son of Harley and Katherine "Betty" Johnson Ireland. He graduated from Brazil High School in 1929 and went on to attend Indiana University. He married Virginia Miller on Nov. 28, 1942, in Brazil.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater until his discharge as a Captain at the end of the war. He was employed by Industrial Supply Company in Terre Haute for 70 years and had served as its President until his retirement.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brazil where he had served for many years as a trustee, BPO Elks of Brazil, the Country Club of Terre Haute, and Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees at the First Bank & Trust and the YMCA Board of Trustees.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Charles H. Ireland; one brother, Sparks J. Ireland and one sister, Jane I. Davis.

He is survived by his wife Virginia; three sons, Dr. Philip H. Ireland and his wife Kathy of Fishers, Dr. Richard W. Ireland and his wife Jo Ellen of Valparaiso, and Donald Ireland and his wife Genine of Terre Haute; six grandchildren Trad, Kyle, Kelly, Tristan, Jason, Shannon and Benjamin Ireland; and daughter-in-law Janet Shull.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church of Brazil with Rev. Gary Scroggins officiating. Burial will follow at Cottage Hill Cemetery.
